Installation of the lab’s Agilent GC–MS with GERSTEL autosampler, thermal desorption unit, and cryotrapping, March 5, 2025.

Our new Agilent gas chromatograph–mass spectrometer (GC–MS) was installed today! The system includes a GERSTEL autosampler, a thermal desorption unit (TDU), and cryotrapping.

This is an exciting addition to the lab’s toolkit for studying chemical diversity and the interactions among plants, fungi, and their environments. We look forward to putting the new system to work on questions about the chemical signals and defenses at the heart of our research.

The installation also brings an opportunity for lab members to get acquainted with the instrument and build their analytical skills. Here’s a glimpse of the group learning about the new setup.
