Floral morphology and pigmentation in sunflower show strong associations with both pollinator efficiency and seed yield, and our genome-wide association study of 288 genotypes identified dozens of loci linked to these traits across multiple environments. Results highlight that floral trait expression is highly plastic, with distinct genetic associations emerging in greenhouse versus field conditions, underscoring the role of environment and domestication history in shaping floral diversity.
